Free Class – Low Maintenance – Low Cost Landscapes
Residents are invited to attend a free class ”Low Maintenance – Low Cost Landscapes” on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Spring Hill Branch Library – 9220 Spring Hill Dr., at 10:30am. The class will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. We all could use some extra time and extra money. Learn how to have a beautiful, Florida-Friendly yard that doesn’t take all of your time nor all of your money.
Free Class – Trees! Marvelous Trees!
Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Trees! Marvelous Trees!” on Friday, September 16, 2016 at the Chinsegut Conservation Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville, at 10:00am. The class will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator, Lilly Browning. Participants will learn about Florida’s trees, which ones to choose for their property and how to care for them. This class will include a “Tree Walkabout” with Master Gardener/Arborist Ken Morgan. Wear comfortable shoes as Ken guides us and discusses the trees in the woods around the conservation center.
Saturday Rain Barrel Workshop and Irrigation Workshop on September 17 at East Hernando Library
Residents are invited to attend a Rain Barrel workshop on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 10:30. The Workshop will be held at the East Hernando Branch Library at 6457 Windmere Dr., just east of Interstate 75. Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator Lilly Browning will present the Rain Barrel Workshop.
To attend the Rain Barrel Workshop you must pre-register and send $55 to HCUD – 15365 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34613 by September 15th. Write “Rain Barrel Workshop September 17” on the envelope. Hernando County Utilities Customers who attend the workshop and install a rain barrel at their home will receive at one-time credit on their water bill for $25. Please bring a vehicle that can accommodate a 50 gallon barrel. Please call 352-540-6230 for more information.
Immediately following the Rain Barrel Workshop, at 11:30am – Dr. William Lester of Hernando County Extension Service will present a free class, “Irrigate Smart – Don’t Throw Your Money Down the Storm Drain.” Residents are encouraged to attend one or both of these workshops.
Free Class – DIY Rain Gardens
Residents are invited to attend a free class ”DIY Rain Gardens” on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Spring Hill Branch Library – 9220 Spring Hill Dr., at 10:30am. The class will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. Rain gardens are a simple way to capture rain water before it becomes stormwater runoff. This allows the water to filter through the soil. Learn where to place the gardens, what types of plants to use and how to direct the flow of water into these beautiful basins.
