    Plant Longleaf Pine Seedlings
Help restore the sandhills by planting longleaf pine seedlings on Cypress Lakes
Preserve. We will be planting containerized seedlings to increase the density of
longleaf pines as part of long term habitat restoration. An optional guided nature
walk will be offered after work to showcase the preserve’s diversity of sandhills,
scrub, and wetlands, and the effects of ongoing habitat restoration work.
Meet at 9:00 AM at the gate on Ridge Manor Blvd. (at Olancha Road) at
33241 Ridge Manor Blvd., Ridge Manor, Florida, 33523. Look for the white
County pickup truck. Following a short talk about the Preserve and the needed
work, volunteers will be provided with a planting tool and seedlings, and directed
to a specific area for planting. Work will be completed by noon. An optional
guided nature walk will be offered following completion of work.
Volunteers should wear long pants and sturdy shoes with closed toes, preferably
leather boots. Please bring your own gloves, eye protection, insect repellent, sun
    screen, and drinking water.
Useful tools might include dibbles (special tree planting spades), sturdy small
shovels, sturdy garden trowels, and five gallon buckets for carrying your
seedlings and collecting trash. The Florida Forest Service has offered to loan us
some dibbles, so we will have tools to share. Feel free to bring your GPS unit
and record the locations of your future towering giants.
