Photographing wild animals can require a combination of luck, skill and patience. Join Alice of Green-Fly Media to learn how to photograph wild subjects. This course is designed for beginners. Join Alice for a guided photography safari through some of Chinsegut’s fantastic bird habitat with the opportunity to learn tricks of the trade for working with moving subjects along the way. Thursday, January 26, 2017 | Homeschool Environmental Education Series

Ages 10-13 are invited to attend our series of programs offered mid-week for homeschool families. This series will introduce kids to the outdoors in fun and hands on adventures occurring every other week for 2.5 hours. Topics include Florida habitats, wildlife, outdoors skills and extensions to getting involved in conservation at home through Citizen Science opportunities. Friday, January 27, 2017 | Beginning Birding

A volunteer from Hernando Audubon Society will be at the Conservation Center at 8 AM to begin an observation session in the Bird and Butterfly garden before hitting the trails. This program is free, no registration required. Loaner binoculars and field guides available for new birders. Program runs until 11 AM.


Begin Birding with one of America’s oldest conservation organizations, the Audubon Society. Members of the Hernando Audubon chapter will be at Chinsegut and invite all levels of birders or those with an interest in birding to join them for a bird safari. This friendly and fun group is a great way to get introduced to this activity that is growing in popularity across the globe. Learn about the Audubon Society and what you can do to support bird conservation. No registration is required and this program is completely free. The Conservation Center will provide equipment at no cost to new birders for the program (binoculars and field guides).

Saturday, January 28, 2017 | Archery for Beginners

Join us for this 2 hour beginner’s instructional course and target shoot. All equipment for this free program is provided by the center. This session is for adults only, advance registration is required by calling (352) 754-6722.

If you ever wanted to explore the sport of archery here’s your chance. Join us at Chinsegut for a free 2 hour program on the basics of archery. All equipment will be provided by the Center. Please register in advance, equipment is limited. Call (352) 754-6722 to register. Dates for children will be offered later this year.
