Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Shabby Chic Yards – Beautiful Landscapes on a Budget” on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the West Hernando Library – 6335 Blackbird Ave, Brooksville at 10:30 a.m. The class will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator, Lilly Browning. You don’t have to spend a lot to have a beautiful and practical yard. Plant selection and maintenance will be covered as well as some fun, shabby chic outdoor decorating tips. Free class. No registration necessary.
Free Class – Alien Invaders!
 
Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Alien Invaders!” on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the West Hernando Library – 6335 Blackbird Ave, Brooksville at 1:00 p.m. The class will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator, Lilly Browning. Urban Horticulture Agent Dr. William Lester, and Sea Grant Agent Brittany Hall-Scharf. Learn the steps you can take to help reduce the problems caused by the Asian Citrus Psyllid, Sailfin Catfish and Australian Pine Trees.  Free class. No registration necessary.
Free Class –Common Pests and the Plants They Love
 
Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Common Pests and the Plants They Love” on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Spring Hill Branch Library – 9220 Spring Hill Dr. at 10:30 a. m. The class will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator, Lilly Browning. Some plants attract certain pests. Find out how to make wise choices in plant selection, and if the bugs you see are helpful or harmful. Free Class. No registration necessary.
 
Rain Barrel Workshop on April 26

Residents are invited to attend a Rain Barrel workshop on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 10:30 a. m.  The Workshop will be held at the Hernando County Utilities Building (Former Tampa Bay Times Building) 15365 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville 34613. Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator, Lilly Browning will present the Rain Barrel Workshop.
To attend the Rain Barrel Workshop you must pre-register and send $55 to HCUD – 15635 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34613. Write “Rain Barrel Workshop April 26” on the envelope. Hernando County Utilities Customers who attend the workshop and install a rain barrel at their home will receive at one-time credit on their water bill for $25. Please bring a vehicle that can accommodate a 50 gallon barrel. Attendance at a workshop is mandatory to purchase a rain barrel.  Please call 352-540-6230 for more information.
